Hello everybody, I'm a Brazillian´s listener of Voices of Third Earth. I'm happy with your presence in my favorite podcast. Despite not having listened to the session (because my English is so poor…), I liked this episode, it's always good to keep contact with other podcasters!

Welcome! (and sorry for bad english…)

Thanks a bunch it was a great time, even despite some technical difficulties (and your English is better than alot of native speakers that I could name).

Nice episode. I'm a fan of Voices from the Third Earth (it does sounds better in portuguese), and i have your feed in my itunes for some times but never got to really listen to an episode. What i listened too seemed nice and i've decided to listen to more episodes.

BTW, i tend to agree with your point but it's important to remember about games like Mutants & Masterminds and Savage Worlds where you can give a game benefit directly by giving a bennie or a hero points. It also remembers me of a GM in a M&M game i was playing that gave a hero point for a character not because of RP, but because he did an boldly heroic act, something that was in-character even if there was not deep roleplaying involved.

I like giving benefits to the players, not XP but things they can use on the fly, as those are a better incentive for the players. I'll adopt the +d6 idea in my Pathfinder game for sure.

I did felt in the past i was being incentived to not being bold with my character concepts.

Thinking about D&D, i'm usually very good at playing clerics, i really get into the character and make it seem more "alien" to the mostly christian gaming population, but in a good way. There was a time i was exploring new ideas and forcing myself to just not play always the same kind of character. What happened? I was "penalized" because i would be gaining way more benefits if i just played a Cleric.

I definitely think good roleplaying should be rewarded with some small mechanical benefit, such as bennies, but not with XP. PCs should advance at the same rate.
